RIGA, July 19 (LETA) - At the end of May this year, there were 42,011 people in Latvia registered as living in poverty, which is the same number as at the end of April, according to information provided by the Ministry of Welfare.

At the same time, as of the end of May this year, there were also 18,085 people in the country who had been granted low-income status. This number had also remained unchanged since the end of April.

The income threshold for a household living in poverty is set at 50 percent of the median income. In 2026, the income threshold for a low-income household is EUR 425 for the first or only person in the household and EUR 298 for each additional person in the household.

Each municipality, however, is authorized to set the income threshold for low-income households at no more than 80 percent of the median income, but not lower than the income threshold for households in poverty.

The maximum income threshold for low-income households for the first or only person in the household in 2026 is EUR 680, and EUR 476 for other members of the household.
